Who We are and What We Do:
The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) is the official public standards-setting authority for all prescription and over-the-counter medicines, dietary supplements, and other healthcare products manufactured and sold in the United States. USP sets standards for the quality of these products and works with healthcare providers to help them reach the standards. USP's standards are also recognized and used in more than 130 countries. These standards have been helping to ensure good pharmaceutical care for people throughout the world for more than 185 years.

Function of the Position:
This is a professional IT position in which the Webmaster is responsible for the technical administration of USP's web servers and technical leadership of the team's Web application development. Additionally, the webmaster is the main web applications architect and developer, and is responsible for installing and configuring Web servers, managing day-to-day site operations, establishing site maintenance procedures, monitoring server and site security, collecting site metrics, and performing full life-cycle development of all USP Web-based applications and products.

Job Duties:
Works in concert with web and network infrastructure teams to maintain web servers.
• Assists in evaluation and recommendation of the purchase of new web server hardware and server and development software.
• Acknowledges and resolves performance and technical issues reported by internal and external sources in a timely manner.
• Understands and implements solutions to frequently occurring Web-related security issues (bugs, holes, viruses, password protection, etc.) and updates.
• Monitors site traffic and helps scale server capacity to meet traffic demands and optimize performance. Configures and maintains metrics analysis software and assists with generating metrics reports.
• Performs all Web server configuration tasks and manages server logs. Maintains documentation including site maintenance procedures. Installs and maintains domains and SSL Certificates.
• Converts legacy Perl scripts to PHP and legacy Access databases to MySQL databases.
• Supports the Web team in the development, testing, and maintenance of Web applications. Works with Web developers to identify and correct any errors in site content or programming.
• Assists in the development of project documentation, including requirements, technical design documents, end-user and/or operations manuals.
• Assists with the preparation of test plans and site integrity checks.
• Administers Webmaster email, forwards non-site related inquiries to the appropriate staff, and tracks the volume and nature of the webmaster mail.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
College degree in a related field (BS in Computer Science preferred) and 3-5 years of relevant experience in the design, configuration, operation and maintenance of Web systems architecture, security and Web development projects. The person must possess a high level of technical competence in UNIX, Solaris and Apache web server environments and have expert skills in standards-compliant HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Perl, PHP and MySQL. Ideally the candidate should have familiarity with HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, TCP-IP, SMTP, Sendmail and related Internet protocols. Experience with Web 2.0 applications design techniques using Web standards, Web APIs, web services, Ajax, RSS and wikis is preferred.
